This course is open to anyone wanting to learn about
WordPress. Whether you are an individual looking to use WordPress as a blogging
tool, or you are a business looking to use WordPress for your business website,
or you are an aspiring entrepreneur looking to use WordPress to start your
online business or whether you would like to boost your skills and become more
employable by being able to use WordPress. The advanced course is designed to
give you a solid foundation for how to use WordPress to do virtually anything
you can imagine.

- Theme frameworks and starter themes
- Structuring Themes the right way using the WordPress Template Hierarchy
- Custom Post Types, Custom Taxonomies and Custom Fields
- Development workflow
- Overview of the REST API and a case study for how WordPress and the REST API can be
used to power mobile applications - Hooks, Actions and Filters contained within WordPress Core, Themes and Plugins to
use to enhance your WordPress website - How to configure multiple WordPress websites securely on your web server using
tools such as WHM and cPanel - How and when to use WordPress Multi-Site
- How to monitor the performance of your WordPress website with tools such as
Munin and New Relic - How to debug WordPress problems, common errors and issues that you’ll come
across - Migrating WordPress websites and dealing with multiple instances the database differences
- Migrating WordPress from HTTP to HTTPS using free SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt
Each attendee will have a demo WordPress website configured
on the web server for you to experiment with throughout the duration of the
course to practice the various aspects of what is being taught.
What to Bring
Throughout the course you’ll need a laptop for some of the
interactive parts. If you do not have one, a tablet will suffice or simply work
with another attendee to shadow them. The Advanced WordPress course is
approximately 50% theory and background understanding and 50% hands on.

Please note that you will not be learning any
PHP, HTML, CSS or JavaScript code on this course. While you do not need to know
PHP, HTML, CSS or JavaScript to attend this course as code snippets will be
provided, it is helpful, by this stage you should start to become familiar with
the core PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript concepts that you will start to use
throughout building and managing your WordPress website.
